Toughest On Myself
Made it to another Friday and today the big thing was Staff Appreciation Day at 8:30 AM and then my performance review from Eloisa at 11:00 AM. I was totally going to blow off Staff Appreciation actually, because I was trying to continue the momentum of yesterday's cleanup of the living room. This morning I figured since I needed to take a shower first thing anyway, I decided to clean the thing. I was beginning to get used to the dirt spots on the shower floor and I had almost given up on not getting it back to the white it was when I first moved in. Of course maybe that's just not having Lisa around anymore to bug and bug about it. This morning I decided to put a little more elbow grease to it and what do you know it became back to white again. And I got the shower clean. And I was done before the meeting. And so I had time to attend it. I actually didn't realize that a bunch of service awards were being celebrated. Heck I'm just glad I made it to 7 years, which would make it the longest I've been with any one organization in the last 27 years. That's gotta be something isn't it? And after my performance evaluation it would appear that I'm sticking around. Eloisa gave me 4's mostly which was a big surprise. She took account the fact that my team and I did very very well reacting to the pandemic and put us in a position to continue doing business. I'll take that. The only low mark, if you could even consider it low was that I still needed to be more decisive at the Technology Council Meeting instead of looking for a consensus all the time. So why am I letting Barbara change the look and feel of the intranet? Oh well. My overall rating was a 3.5 while I gave myself a 2.83. It was a pretty big difference actually and even Eloisa remarked that I was pretty hard on myself. I AM toughest on myself. This guarantees at least a 3% pay increase for the next year and it is all I could ask for. And so with that, the 2 big events this week would appear to have positive outcomes. Also all I could ask for. I still had stuff to do of course but after my eval was lunchtime already and after cooking myself some shrimp noodles, I actually headed out to Trader Joe's to start my grocery shopping a bit early. And to celebrate the good evaluation, I got myself a hazelnut frozen drink from Coffee Bean like I used to do many times before on a warm summer day. I felt like I had energy I needed to burn off. And so I also cleaned my bedroom too. And the bathroom floor. Wow. Which means that by the time I attended the last meeting of the day, the Friday afternoon Huddle, I had my apartment 75% cleaned with just the kitchen to go. And THAT I did right after the meeting and the rest of the living room that needed to be cleaned. And so I'm sitting on Friday night and I had already cleaned my apartment. The work day and the work week was officially over and it was actually that favorite time of the week for me... the sweet spot when the weekend has officially begun and there is still the entire weekend to go. When the only decision to make is what to make myself for dinner and what to binge watch tonight. The thing was, after cleaning the kitchen I had no intention of dirtying it up all over again. And so I didn't have much more than a salad for dinner and some shrimp fried rice. And I ended up watching the Dodgers-Angels game. Kind of like from Friday summer nights of the past. Turned out to be a pretty good day to wind up a pretty good week.
