Free Day

As I mentioned before this week feels less busy than usual, although I don't really think I know what usual is anymore. To me that simply means I don't have much on my schedule today. Except of course Johnnie's usual class schedule. Computer class at 9 AM, Music class right after that. And me watching closely nearby. Actually I did have one meeting and that was my IS Team Meeting, which was over in a half hour. And then just like the last 3 days, I had to think about lunch for Johnnie and I already. I STILL haven't gotten the hang of this 12:10 small class Zoom meeting thing. But today, Johnnie asked for spaghetti and red sauce and so it was simple enough to make that for him and make some for me too. Or at least, I didn't have time to get me lunch so I had to eat the pasta. I figured I'd just supplement it after Johnnie's class. I had an idea that maybe Johnnie would practice swimming today. Except that the air quality outside wasn't so good. How do I know that? We woke up to a haze here in the West LA area first thing this morning no doubt due to the fires going on up and down the SoCal coast. In places inland, it is actually an orange haze. Very weird looking outside if you ask me. Anyway Johnnie didn't feel like going swimming anyway. But I still wanted to get him some new swim trunks. He is growing fast and he has already outgrown the swim trunks I bought him last year. So he and I headed out to Target Culver City. See the pic of dad-and-son Captains America? We got the swim trunks and THEN I finally made a stop to get that snack supplement I wanted to get before lunch.  Today that would be $5 nachos at Taco Bell. Even Johnnie liked the chips from that deal. And so Johnnie and I had a pretty good afternoon.
In the middle of all that, I got a text from Dexter that he was coming over after 5 PM. I almost forgot that we had talked about getting dinner together again a couple of weeks ago. And the target night was tonight, especially since he would be buying me dinner for my birthday. How can I refuse that?! It was 6 PM by  the time Dexter came. By then I had already gotten Johnnie HIS dinner. Hey he had a very light lunch, I needed to make sure he had a fairly big dinner, and tonight that would be yet another Panda Express night for him. On the drive up, Dexter noticed the taco truck that always sets up shop at Sawtelle and National right by Rite-Aid. I admit that particular street taco stand IS pretty good, but I haven't gotten any tacos from there since before the pandemic. Now Dexter is suggesting we get dinner from there. How can I refuse that?! And so I got myself a nice burrito (with pineapple in it might I add) and a couple of tacos. And Dexter himself got at least 4 of those things. And while we ate dinner right outside the barbecue patio area in my building, Johnnie ran around kicking the soccer ball, playing with the water fountain and generally just running around. Hey, as long as he is keeping himself occupied to keep from being bored is just fine with me. And after we ate, Dexter and I called Yadira to say hi and check up on her. Hey a night of reconnecting right? So we had a pretty good meal and then Yadira also let me know that the game I was trying to avoid tonight had just ended. That would be Game 4 of the Lakers-Rockets 2nd Round playoff series. I had to remind Yadira that it seemed like a long time ago now that the 3 of us attended that EPIC Lakers-Clippers game on a Sunday which would be the last game at Staples both teams would ever play again this year. Anyway the Lakers blew out the Rockets, taking contol of this series 3-1. Which gives me something to do after Lisa picks up Johnnie tonight. I want to listen to the post game. As it was Lisa got done early, but by the time she came by Dexter had already gone home and all I could do was pass on to Lisa that she should call Yadira. Anyway, Lisa picked up Johnnie, I cleaned up the house and got to watch the Lakers post game. It turned out to be a pretty good freebie kind of day.
