Watching Johnnie

I was up by almost 7 AM this morning. And then I shifted into autopilot because I remembered I had to be at Lisa's early to pick up Johnnie because it's a Lisa workday Saturday. I couldn't remember if I needed to be there at 7 or 7:30 but did that really matter? I just put on a different shirt and headed out to her house, still half-asleep. Lisa was just getting ready and Johnnie was taking a shower too. I might have been just a tad early. Still it wasn't even 7:30 and we were already all out of the house, Lisa to her office, and Johnnie and I for our day together. We started with a carwash, something I hadn't done in months - at least not a carwash I paid for anyway or a carwash I did myself. The last time i did that was Father's Day weekend I think... in June. Man does time fly by or what? It was nice to drive up the 405 to Elysee with a clean car again. And we Johnnie was cutting up and eating his favorite croissant before it was even 8:30. By then it had already heated up and weather forecasts indicated it was going to be a scorcher of a weekend. Summer may be almost over... I guess it wants to go out with a bang. Anyway we did our breakfast at Elysee routine and then we did the Target shopping routine, mostly to get some stuff for my bathroom, but also mostly because of habit. I knew as soon as we got to my apartment Johnnie would want to start watching videos, because well, I told him he could as much as he wanted on weekends when there is no school. And boy he remembers everything you tell him. I also told him we needed to practice swimming again later, but this time he didn't express fear or whine. In fact, he sounded like he was looking forward to it. Well, that's a win. And so on we went with our morning and my big goal for today was to keep the apartment as clean as this morning before I left, even after Johnnie leaves later on. The big challenge? He already said he wanted to have Panda Express for lunch. So I already knew he would spill half his rice on the floor. Sigh. Actually, on second thought I didn't really care. As long as Johnnie was with me, that was the important thing for today. I let him watch his Octonauts, then Lego videos, and most recently Emily's Wonder Lab which was a Netflix show about science experiments. I know he'll remember half these things and we'll end up doing them later on. By early afternoon, it had heated up considerably, and so I thought it would be a great time to cool off at the pool. This being a Saturday and all, I knew we weren't going to be alone. And in fact, there were quite a few people there. But we had one corner all to ourselves and that was where we continued to practice propelling. Johnnie hadn't learned to breathe mid-stroke yet, but today he made it almost all the way across the short side of the pool on one big breath. We hung out in the water for almost an hour and then back home we went. Lisa called to let me know she'd be out early and that I should keep Johnnie through late afternoon. Happy to do that I said. As it turned out Lisa invited me over to have dinner with them since she had a ton of food from Panini Grill. Kabobs. My favorite. And no need to cook tonight. I get to keep the kitchen clean! It's a deal. Still I keep miscommunicating which ended up with me going to her office. I thought she was still there. Turned out she had gone home. By then Johnnie had already had dinner. Chicken McNuggets and penne in chicken broth. I will always feed Johnnie by 5 PM. We got to Lisa's house and she was in bed. She was tired from a very full day like she is on every work Saturday. Still I appreciated that I got a free dinner tonight. And as it turned out, Lisa was too hungry to wait for me. Why should I even be surprised LOL. I actually didn't care. Even better for me so I could just grab a bite and go on home. Except that when I accept these dinner invitations, there is no eating and running. I sort of have to hang around as late as possible until mom and son are too tired. Sigh. I told Lisa i had to go to bed early because we had a really early tee time tomorrow morning. Which is the truth, not to mention we're trying a course none of us had ever been too or played at before. Still I hung out for a bit. Long enough to feed the turtles and to catch bugs for them outside to feed to the turtles. I guess this is what Lisa and Johnnie does to amuse themselves. They had already watched Winnie the Pooh movie last night I guess. Surprisingly, Lisa proved to be adept at finding crickets even outside in the dark. And we managed to get a few to feed to Jack and Jill. Finally when I got to 4 crickets, I felt it was ok to leave. It was a little after 8 PM. I had enough time to get a movie in. And so I downloaded Mulan. No need to pay for it at the Disney channel. Turned out to be an ok movie actually. The fight scenes were really dope. And it wasn't even 11 PM yet when it got done. I get to have a decent night's sleep before the 8 AM tee time tomorrow after all. Long day. Nothing out of the ordinary beyond the swimming. And that is just fine with me.
