Record Breaking Heat

So we had a really early tee time this morning. At a course none of us had ever been to: Hansen Dam Golf Course in Pacoima. In the heart of the San Fernando Valley. I say that because it was supposed to be really hot again today and the SF Valley is one of the hottest places in all of SoCal. And as it would turn out later, we ended up playing just a few miles from the place where the hottest temp in LA County would be recorded. A sizzling 121 degrees in Woodland Hills. And here we were. I already noticed on the drive up the 405 that it felt warm. Our tee time was at 8 AM and I even brought 2 bottles of water, one of them frozen. It didn't help that on Hole 1, the uphill was so steep that I was already breathing hard when I got to the green and I turned a pretty good first 2 shots into a 6. Same thing on the next hole. I had not fully recovered yet but I did hit a couple of nice shots up to the green. But I didn't putt well and I ended up with another 6.  I hit another nice drive on Hole 3. But that would be the last shot I would hit with any confidence at all. And after that I reverted back to that whiffing-on-fairway-shots golfer and I forgot about all I did last week when I won the match. I ended up getting frustrated, got speeded up on my shots, never got to slow myself down and really just got focused on how warm it was. I ended up drinking up all the water I brought. I did manage to tie for a win on one of the short holes. But somehow it felt like I forgot how to hit with my woods from the fairway and so I was disappointed in my play today. By Hole 9 I was almost out of it and I just wanted to go home. I was drenched with sweat and all I wanted to do was jump into a pool, all the while thinking of the pool at the apartment. We did get done by 10:30 AM and it was a good thing too because it got even hotter by at least 15 degrees after that!
No decompressing my golf game after that. I just go thrown out of focus because of the heat and I never got myself back to calm and centered, especially on the fairways and on the green. All I could was go home, take a cold shower to bring my body temperature down and basically just crashed on the couch for the rest of the day. No way I was going to venture outside until way later when it had sufficiently cooled down. I ate all I had in the fridge, salads and tacos for lunch. And then watched the first episode of the new Raised By Wolves series from Ridley Scott. It had an Alien feel to it but it was pretty good I thought. I finally did head out closer to 5 PM to get some groceries since I hadn't done any shopping pretty much all weekend.  I stocked up on iced tea and all the favorite things I liked to drink expecting to hunker down again tomorrow.  The cool thing was that since tomorrow was a holiday and I had the day off, I didn't think about going back to work. Actually that's not all true. I got some texts from Nelson because we were getting alerts about some of the equipment not pinging at the health centers. The concern there was that due to the heat, the power supplies may be over taxed causing a power outage. We just wanted to make sure if any of the refridgerators were powered down, that the vaccines would be taken out of them and put into a cooler place so we didn't lose thousands of dollars worth of vaccines. I sent some texts to give my guys some direction. And then went on to watch the Lakers tie their Round 2 series with Houston and watched some more Person of Interest episodes. Good thing was... the weekend isn't over just yet. I still have tomorrow.
