Johnnie's Day

So I posted this on FB showing how full Johnnie's morning is this morning. I mean the child is busier than I am! And that's because I scheduled a bunch of activities to keep him engaged and interested this morning. There was the lecture on invertebrates from the Aquarium of the Pacific. The Stuck At Home lesson on friction and gravity from the Cali Science Center. And then the Music Class that he eventually bailed on because he saw no one but a whole slew of the older kinder kids and it spooked him because it wasn't his class. Finally though there was the 11 AM Zoom meeting where he got to share the card he made for Brooklyn. It started out way too sappy when he and Lisa worked on it. He and I reworked it so it was cute and still endearing. I also debuted his new chair and makeshift classwork table today. And I was very excited to see him actually use it. Anyway the morning was dominated by Johnnie activities and I wouldn't have had it any other way. I didn't have much in the way of meetings going on at work anyway. It IS Thursday after all isn't it? I'm not supposed to be busy! Dad and son did get to share a bowl of spaghetti for lunch. Mine had meatballs. His was plain but came with a couple of slices of cheese flatbread pizza. All good. And then after lunch I decided to venture out. We went to Target in Westwood to pick up paper towels and Kleenex's since Johnnie ran me out of both. I hadn't ventured out that far in a while, certainly not at lunchtime. The freeways were mostly clear as expected. But when you got to Westwood, there was the usual traffic. Not as bad as it would have been normally. But since this is the first time I'm encountering actual traffic in a couple of months, it did feel strange. On the drive back Johnnie knocked off to sleep in the back seat. Hardly surprisingly since I did give him a pretty big lunch. And I let him sleep through a lot of the afternoon. I got myself caught up with some work stuff and by the time he woke up it was already 4 PM! I let him watch some Tumble Leaf videos fully expecting to get him another round of Panda Express for dinner. But instead he asked for whatever I had in the house. Which meant he got udon for dinner. And when he put all of that away, I gave him some more penne pasta from the other night. And then finally when Lisa texted me that she was home from her bike ride, I rushed us over there at 6 PM.  You never know with her. Tonight, she actually looked tired. She did go for that bike ride after all and she felt like knocking off for a nap right then and there. Why did I bother to rush then? Why? Because if I didn't she would have found a reason to be irritated that I wasn't there at 6 PM like we agreed. So tonight it is ME that was irritated that we didn't have to rush. it's ok. It's her time now. I went home, finished my 11,000 steps and watched Siren. Slim pickings on a Thursday night for TV I know. But Johnnie and I had a good Thursday today. And THAT I all I could ask for.
