Election Day

On the surface, today seemed like just another Tuesday. First full day Johnnie is back with me, up early for McDonald's breakfast. Library at 9 AM. I could hear Johnnie's teacher reading a book. And then Social Studies after. Johnnie is supposed to show he has learned where he is from house to street to city to state to country to the Planet Earth. And then off to my IS Team Meeting for a half hour via Zoom. Nothing really big today, in fact it felt like I was pulling stuff out of my butt to talk about. This week is supposed to be the lull week before a Tech Council Meeting week next week which is a week early this month. Bad timing though, because of all the Data Analytics stuff I now have to learn before Lam leaves next week. I'm still sort of processing that really and so it will take until next week before I can start internalizing stuff. Still by mid-day Johnnie and I are walking to McDonald's to get him some chicken McNuggets for his lunch. If you're seeing something new in this pic it's because it's the first time I'm wearing long pants in many months, probably since at least 6 months ago. Yes it has finally started cooling off now and I don't mind just yet. Hasn't been any rain after all and it's already November. Still, it was cool enough where I had to gear Johnnie up with a wetsuit for his swim class today. I was not going to have him shivering through half his computer class like I did last week. I thought the wet suit would work out. Turned out, it only worked for a half hour and then he still got really cold. Fortunately, I thought fast enough on my feet to get him into the big hot tub in the back and that had enough water in it so he could at least practice a couple of strokes actually. And it was heated. And so he was just fine when his class got done and I was able to whisk him right off to his computer class. And then by 4 PM, he was all done and now comes the wait. Polls would be starting to close back East by now. We would be starting to get election returns soon. I and the rest of the country are anxiously waiting of course. Joe Biden is heavily favored to win per all the polling so far. But we know how that turned out 4 years ago when Hillary Clinton got soundly beaten in what was then a huge upset. Would it happen again? Trump supporters seem to think so online. God can we as a country even bare to stomach another 4 years of that guy? I still really don't understand his supporters. They claim they don't care about his morals or his ethics, they just care that he stands by their policies. And those evangelical Christians. They just want to end the legality of abortion, and Obamacare, and same sex marriage. As if Trump cares about abortion. Or same sex marriage. He cares about himself and has gotten a fanatic following just pretending to care about all that other stuff. Those of us that care about integrity do not approve. I think there are more of us on that column. But it didn't do any good 4 years ago. Of course I was hoping for a landslide Biden victory. But when Florida went to Trump by 6 PM that was bothersome. How about Texas? Could Texas possibly... NOPE. It was looking and feeling like it did 4 years ago. And that is really REALLY bad. Trump is leading all over the Midwest... Wisconsin, Michigan. That isn't good. I had to remind myself that they had just finished counting the in-person votes. And so by the time I went to bed tonight, Trump was firmly in the lead. I had a sick feeling in my stomach. I didn't realize that I was more emotionally vested in this Presidential race than I thought. So much so I couldn't sleep. I stayed up watching, hoping that the needle would move in Biden's direction. I started scouring the online stuff. Reddit. Decision Desk HQ. They were saying not to be misled by any of the counts after tonight because there were literally millions of mail-in ballots they won't even start counting until tomorrow. That is a little bit of a relief. I think we're just so used to the race being called sometime late at night that we think whatever the tally is by the end of this first night is it. That apparently is not the case. Things have started moving in Biden's direction and Trumps leads have inched lower and lower. It became clear the race won't be called tonight. And so I finally went to sleep. it was 2 AM in the morning...
