Officially Working From Home Day 1

Didn't I always wish I was working from home? And for myself? Or maybe wish that I didn't have to work at all and still have my current income rolling in? Well I got the first one granted due to this whole corona virus thing. My whole office is working from home. Frankly it isn't something new to me and so I was pretty sure I'd seamlessly transition to full-time remote worker fairly easily. I'm more worried about routines and habits. Like eating, taking a shower, watching TV. Discipline has to be practiced and so THAT is what's new to me. By the time I walked to McDonald's for breakfast it was almost 9 AM and I was already getting a spate of emails from Q Finance. Can't do this, can't log in to that... They were already forgetting everything we had taught them on Friday. But I guess I can't blame them. They are totally out of their comfort zone. It pretty much assures me I have no actually work and be near my computer and phone all day. Funny thing was I go to McDonald's and the place was closed for indoor dining. I had to go back, get my car and get my breakfast via drive-thru. I guess this is the new normal for the next couple of weeks. When I met with my team via Zoom it was actually no different than a usual Monday. Yeah some people - notably Finance - were a little off kilter but they had merely forgotten this or forgotten to do that. Nothing that a little reminder didn't fix. By lunchtime it had occured to me I hadn't done my Tech Council presentation yet and so just like a normal Monday if we were still at the FRB, I put my head down and worked on that this afternoon. The funny thing I observed was that I was less distracted at home than I usually am at work. As in I didn't do any of the YouTube work I would usually be attracted to. And i had a pretty nice meditation session this morning too. If last week my intention at the beginning of the week was to provide massive value, this week it's just to help fray anxious nerves and provide stability. Doing that provides massive value too and in these current times, it's more than plenty good enough.
I actually felt like I worked harder today at home than I would had I been in the office. A couple of things I need to work on... the chair i use is extremely uncomfortable and my shoulders felt sore afterwards. Gonna need to monitor that. Also, I had a tuna sandwich for lunch and so I actually ate less than I would normally do as well. Hmmm. I did spend about an hour walking around to log in as many steps as i could, even though it was raining pretty hard outside. I only stopped when it was close to 6 PM, and I realized I still had to pick up Johnnie today. I called Lisa and lo and behold she told me she was grounded too. It seems that the CDA memo'd all dentists that they could only work on emergency cases. I guess that effectively shuts down her practice. Oh well, no problem with childcare all of a sudden LOL.  She asked me to come over and maybe do Johnnie's homework with them. I knew she would offer dinner... she said so and I wasn't in the mood to eat any  more fish. All I cared about was to pick up Johnnie. And so I ate some of my leftover beef stew and some of the rice I had left. and then I went to Whole Foods to buy some carne asada and some sesame noodles. i don't know what to make with them except that maybe Lisa would figure something to do with them.  When I got there they were in the middle of homework and I was fully aware I had to keep myself up to speed because after all, not only am I working from home, Johnnie is learning from home too. Lisa was pushing Johnnie on homework and I had to keep myself from reacting. In my house, my routine is to feed him FIRST and then we do homework. Johnnie was hungry and he said as much. It was already almost 7 PM at this time. Fortunately, Lisa was hungry too [I wasn't for once]. And with the steak and noodles, Johnnie stir-fried some cabbage and mushrooms and had some leftover rice of her own. And wouldn't you know she actually whipped up a pretty good light dinner! And he made udon for Johnnie. I guess he knows that's all the variety he gets at this house LOL. Well we did manage to head out by 8 PM and Johnnie was actually full enough not to want any more food. We went home and watched videos like a normal Monday night for us. Johnnie must have been really tired from his weekend though. He was already almost falling asleep while he was playing in the tub. And while he was showering. And so no videos for him tonight. Just straight to bed and straight to sleep. I needed an early evening too. As I said I worked my butt off today. Day 1 working from home worked out just fine. But it's just the start... Tomorrow more of the same...
